How geofenced clock-in works

Each job site can define a geofence radius in meters around its map pin. When an employee clocks in on mobile, Worknilo checks whether their phone location is inside that radius (including GPS accuracy).

If they are outside the allowed distance, the app explains how far they appear to be and lets them try again or request manager approval to clock in away from the site.

Clock-in typically opens about 30 minutes before a shift starts. Trying earlier shows a too-early message with the open time when available.

Configure the site radius (web)

1. Open Settings and edit the location (or finish the welcome location step during onboarding).
2. Confirm the map pin matches the real entrance or work area.
3. Set Geofence (meters) to a radius that fits the site. Too tight causes false outsides; too loose weakens the control.
4. Save. Have someone test clock-in at the entrance and just outside the fence.

Clock in on mobile

1. Open the Clock tab. Allow location access when the OS prompts you.
2. Confirm you are clocking in for the correct shift or site context.
3. Tap Clock in while at the job site.
4. If you are outside the geofence, move closer and try again, or choose Request approval if you must clock in off-site.
5. If you already have an active clock-in, clock out from Clock before starting another.

Away-from-site clock-ins typically need manager approval before the time counts toward payroll.

Approve exceptions (web)

1. Open Time, then Approvals (or the time inbox your role uses).
2. Review geofence overrides and other exception requests (such as overtime or early out flows when your org uses them).
3. Approve or deny with enough context for payroll later.
4. Confirm the resulting time entry looks correct on Time and on timesheets before a Pay run.
