Pay

Turn on Pay and complete a payroll run

Enable Pay on Pulse, configure employer and employee profiles, calculate a run, lock it, and download payment files. Worknilo calculates; the employer pays and remits.

Audience: Owners and payroll adminsUpdated: 2026-09-08

Operating model (read this first)

Worknilo Pay calculates net pay and withholdings and produces files such as CPA 005 / CSV, payslips, and GL outputs. The employer uploads the bank file, remits to the CRA (or equivalent), and pays third-party payees.

Worknilo does not hold employee funds or auto-pay the CRA in the current release. Treat Pay as calculation and document software with a clear employer remitter role.

Billing: Pay is charged per employee included in each locked run, on top of Pulse seats.

Enable Pay

  1. Confirm Pulse is enabled for the organization.
  2. In Settings → Modules (or during onboarding), enable Pay and complete any billing confirmation.
  3. Open Pay in the web admin. Complete MFA enrollment if your organization requires it for payroll actions.

One-time configuration

  1. Pay → Employers: legal employer details (business number, remitter type, province, bank originator fields as required).
  2. Pay → Schedules: pay calendars and periods.
  3. Pay → Employee profiles: TD1, SIN handling as designed, bank deposit details, schedule assignment, and YTD when migrating mid-year.
  4. Pay → Types: earning and deduction types you use.
  5. Pay → Payees: third-party remittance payees (benefits, union, RRSP, and similar).
  6. Approve Pulse time for the period you are about to pay.

Create, calculate, and lock a run

  1. Open Pay → Runs and create a run for the employer and period.
  2. Pull or confirm hours from Pulse (Pay → Hours / run preparation) so totals match approved time.
  3. Calculate the run and review nets, taxes, and exceptions.
  4. When the run is correct, lock it. Locking finalizes outputs for that run and typically triggers per-employee run billing.
  5. Download the bank file (CPA 005 / CSV) and payslips from the locked run.
  6. Upload the bank file to your financial institution according to their cut-off rules.

Prefer a dry-run period (parallel with your incumbent payroll) before the first live lock. Reversals and corrections exist for mistakes, but prevention is cheaper.

What employees see

Employees can view payslip and related pay information in the mobile Pay area after runs are available to them. Payment method details are managed in-product where enabled.
